Martina Demmel Continues Send Train with Joe-Cita 5.14d

The big send comes only a few weeks after her onsight of a steep 5.14a in Spain

Martina Demmel, 19, has sent the 50-metre 130-move Joe-Cita 5.14d in Oliana, Spain, which was first climbed by Adam Ondra. The route links Joe Blau 5.14c with La Morenita 5.14c.

A few weeks ago, we reported here about the German crusher’s onsight of Los Humildes pa casa 5.14a, which she followed up with a redpoint of Joe Blau on her third go. Over the last month, she’s climbed two dozen routes from 5.13- to 5.14+.

Demmel only started climbed in 2017, and she focuses on onsight sends without training at a gym. Like many climbers, she keeps track of her sends on 8a.nu, where she’s logged over 850 ticks in the past year with 70 per cent of them being onsights.

Joe Blau was her second 5.14c with the first being Montaña Magica, in Chulilla, Spain, which she redpointed in January. She has since sent another 5.14c with La Morenita. Evgeniya Malamid, of Russia onsighted Los Humildes pa casa in 2013, as did Mina Markovič of Slovenia in 2014. Josune Bereziartu, Charlotte Durif, Sasha DiGiulian, Anak Verhoeven, Kajsa Rosén, Laura Rogora and others have alos onsighted 5.14a.
