Solveig Korherr Gets Her First 5.14a Onsight

The onsight climber has racked up an impressive list of sends to start the year

German climber Solveig Korherr, 25, has onsighted the famous tufa route Humildes pa Casa 5.14a in Oliana, Spain. She’s been one of the world’s best onsight climbers over the past few years.

“Thanks to the kneebars, I always had some time to observe and plan the next sections,” Korherr said on 8a.nu. “Towards the end, facing two tufas, I could take advantage of my flexibility and stem quite well between them, but eventually, they became very sloppy. At that point, I definitely got nervous, not knowing exactly what the best body position would be and with which hand to go first. I’m glad I still stayed calm, made the right decisions in the end, and didn’t hesitate too much.”

Solveig, who is from Steiblingen, was introduced to climbing by her father when she was six. She started competing when she was nine and at 11 started training with a coach in Switzerland. Then 2014 marked a milestone as one of her best competition years, where she won the German Lead Cup and made the finals at the European Youth Cup in Imst. The following year she qualified for the German National Team. In fall 2021, she visited North America and made a quick repeat of Titan 5.14a at Lion’s Head in Ontario – watch her send here. She then travelled to Red River Gorge where she climbed three 5.14s in eight days, read about her trip here. In 2022, she climbed her second 5.14d with Jungfraumarathon.

Oliana’s landscape was changed forever by large wildfires, the area is known for its 50-metre endurance routes. Several climbers had previously onsited Humildes pa Casa, including Mina Markovic, Martina Demmel, Maja Vidmar and Evgeniya Malamid.
