What a Wild Month in the World of Climbing

From V17 to 5.14d trad to 5.15 to WI6 solos, the past few weeks has been full of headline-making climbing

We’re only in February and already 2024 is lining up to be one of the most impressive in the world of climbing. Just this month we’ve seen hard repeats and first ascents around the world. Here are just a few of the headline-making ascents.

V17 repeat: Will Bosi made the second ascent of Return of the Sleepwalker V17 at Red Rocks after 12 sessions – more here.

5.14d trad confirmed: Adam Ondra made the second ascent of Bon Voyage, a 5.14d trad route in Annot, France – more here.

The Singularity climbed: Ethan Salvo climbed The Singularity V15, arguably the most difficult problem in Squamish – more here.

New V16 in Bishop: Sean Bailey made the first ascent of Devilution on the Grandpa Peabody Boulder in the Buttermilks in California, and said that it’s possibly V16 – more here.

Mega Quebec ice solos: Stas Beskin soloed three Quebec ice lines in a day up to M7+ WI6 for over 1,000 metres of vertical – more here.

New V16 in Colorado: Daniel Woods made the first ascent of a new line in Colorado called Adrenaline and proposed the grade of V16 – more here.

Riders on the Storm freed: A team of top alpinists freed one or the world’s most difficult big wall climbs in Torre del Paine – more here.

Slashface flashed: Nathaniel Coleman flashed Slashface, a V13 once considered an American test-piece – more here.

Sleeping Lion repeat: Jorge Diaz-Rullo made the third ascent of Sleeping Lion 5.15b, established by Chris Sharma – more here.

Hueco Rock winner: Michaela Kiersch won the 2024 Hueco Rock Rodeo, climbing four problems V12 and above – more here.
