Watch Hazel Findlay on Splitter 5.13 Crack Conception

Findlay sent the long Indian Creek crack earlier this year

This past spring, Hazel Findlay faced off with the immaculate 70-metre splitter Concepción 5.13, located in the southwest desert near Moab, Utah.

“I guess I got my ass kicked a little bit,” said Findlay. “Performance anxiety comes because you put too much pressure on yourself. But if you have low expectations, then there’s no pressure anymore.” Ironically, as she points out in this film, success happens when “you just kind of let yourself climb.”

Dean Potter made the first free ascent of Conception 5.13 in 2003, an aid route originally called Acromaniac 5.10 A0 in Day Canyon near Moab, Utah. Potter renamed the route Concepcion after the late José Pereyra’s mother. On April 6, 2008, Steph Davis made the third ascent of Conception, shortly after it was repeated by Alex Honnold. Davis described Concepcion as her most technically demanding project ever.
