Planet Garbage is a Steep 5.14d in Colorado

This is one of the hardest routes found at Rifle, a popular crag with steep sport climbs

Joe Kinder bolted a wild line in Rifle’s Wicked Cave called Planet Garbage in 2013 and made the first ascent in 2016. He just released footage of his send captured by Keith Ladzinski. It was Kinder’s sixth route of the grade at the time.

“A route I bolted in 2013,” said Kinder after his FA. “Tried the 5.14d exit last year and loved it. Returned this June and couldn’t take it seriously due to its wetness and my fitness. I came home, trained and returned. Completed it in my two week allotment.”

In 2021, Kinder made the first ascent of Kinder Cakes at 5.15a in the Skull Cave, which is now Rifle’s hardest route. Kinder has a number of hard first ascents to his name, including Bone Tomahawk 5.14d/15a and Life of Villains 5.15a. Over the past few decades, he’s climbed hundreds of hard routes up to 5.15-.
