Adam Ondra Climbs Five-Pitch 5.14a on Underground Wall

You can only climb in this famous cave a few days each year. Watch as Adam Ondra climbs overhanging run-out rock in humid conditions

In December 2022, Adam Ondra made the first free ascent of an old aid climb in the Moravský Kras area of the Czech Republi called Příklepový Strop. It’s the hardest multi-pich in the country.

The five-pitch 5.14a is found in the Macocha cave, a famous abyss knowns as the deepest daylight cave in Europe. You can only climb in the cave for five days in December after getting a permit.

“Deep at the bottom, there is a massive arch that had never been free-climbed,” said Ondra. “Undoubtedly the longest and steepest wall in the whole country, in the most bizarre location. The route is full of rusty pegs and bolts and surprisingly excellent climbing. Poor protection, humidity, cold temperature, wild overhang and a limited number of days you can try it make it something I will never forget.”
