Allison Vest Goes for Strength World Record
In a recent video from Hannah Morris, the Canadian champion tests her fingers against some of the best in the world
Pro climber Allison Vest has a unique set of climbing strengths, her finger and grip strength is at the highest level – possibly even record breaking.
After Magnus Midtbo, Will Bosi and Adam Ondra – three of the best male climbers in the world – shared their own personal records on a variety of finger strength feats, Hannah Morris and team sets out to meet Vest in Salt Lake City, to see if she could match, or maybe even better, their records – watch below.
Vest moved to the Canadian Rockies with her family when she was seven, and two years later began comp climbing. She joined the national team as a teenager, and went on to win gold in the 2018 and 2020 Canadian boulder nationals. She won gold in lead nationals in 2019.
In 2019, Vest became the first Canadian woman to climb V13 with a repeat of Terminator in Squamish, and then in 2021, she sent her first 5.14a with Thrown’ the Houlihan on the Erratic Crag at Wild Iris. The following year, she became the first Canadian woman to climb V14 – read about it here.
