An Epic Quest for First Ascents in Alaska

If you want to find adventure then head to Alaska, just like Vince Lapointe and Cameron Jardell did in 2023 in search of first ascents.

They teamed up for a 120-kilometre glacier traverse across the Juneau Icefield, from the U.S. to Canada, on a quest for rock climbing first ascents. Loaded up with Costco’s finest previsions, 5 lbs of pre-cooked bacon and two decked-out plastic kiddy sleds, the morning of July 9, saw the two of us Heli into Death Valley on the edge of the Juneau Icefield.

Upon landing on the glacier, Lapointe noticed Jardell holding his outdated phone horizontally, and said, “Wait, are we making a movie about this?” To which Jardell said, “I mean, why not?”
