Belayer Gets Hit in Head With Rock, Reaction is Priceless

A reminder to always wear a helmet, even when belaying

Tim Wheatley of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was out for a day of cragging with his friend Gavin when the rope pulled a loose block from the route. Spring rockfall is very common because the winter’s freeze/thaw cycles loosen once-solid stone.

The rock falls onto an unsuspecting Wheatley who was looking down at the time. The rock is big enough that if he wasn’t wearing a helmet that it could’ve caused life-changing injuries.

Luckily, the helmet he was wearing saved his life. And while a life-saving deflection is worth a video, this one went viral because of Wheatley’s calm and hilarious response. Watch below.
