Chuck Odette on Rock Climbing at Age 66

A new film from Petzl features Odette climbing steep rock and talking about life on the road

The limitations that we set for ourselves often fall short of our true potential. How do we transcend limitations? How do we take these perceived ‘weaknesses’ and use them to achieve the things we want most in this world? Ask Chuck Odette.

At the age of 66, Odette is a likely candidate for oldest climber you’ll see at the crag, but he won’t be the weakest. He lives a life centered around rock climbing and seven years ago he retired from work, sold his home, and lit out across the country with his wife Maggie in a 16-foot camp trailer to chase good weather and steep rock.

In 2020, Odette climbed one of his hardest routes to date with T Rex, a 5.14b at Maple Canyon. After his send, he noted, “Roughly 80-100 tries over two years time, thought i might die of old age before sending this rig., so glad i didn’t have to use that excuse for failing.”

The Best Is Yet To Come is a story about what makes a life well-lived, and worth living. Watch below.
