The Hollywood movie Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier starring William Shatner as Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Spock was released to theatres in 1989. Nimoy, who died in 2015, would have celebrated his 93rd birthday today.
One of the scenes featured Captain Kirk free-soloing an unspecified route on El Capitan as Spock levitated behind. Kirk then falls and Spock has to save him before impact – watch below. In another clip, Shatner talks about what he believes climbing means to climbers and he doesn’t disappoint.
