The FA of a Six-Pitch 5.14c in Spain

Edu Marin opened Arco Iris back in 2020. A film featuring the FA was just released

Edu Marin made the first free ascent of the 200-metre Arco Iris at 5.14c at Montserrat back in 2020. It follows a wild line up a conglomerate wall. Watch Marin on the newer test-piece below.

Arco Iris was an old aid route first climbed by German Folch and Armand Ballart back in 1979. Marin was supported by his father Francisco during his redpoint. Seb Berthe later repeated it and confirmed the grade of the crux pitch is 5.14c.

The six pitches of Arco Iris break down to 5.9, 5.11, 5.14a, 5.14c, 5.13d and 5.13b. Before attempting it, Marin got permission from Ballart to add new hardware. Marin is one of the world’s best all-round climbers, with sport sends up to 5.15 and 5.13 in the alpine, including Eternal Flame on Trango Tower.
