Alex Honnold has published a 2008 documentary about free soloing Moonlight Buttress and Half Dome on his YouTube page.
Honnold gained mainstream recognition in around 2012 after his free-solo of The Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome was featured in the film Alone on the Wall.
On June 3, 2017, he made the first free-solo ascent of El Capitan, completing Freerider 5.13a in three hours and 56 minutes.
I don’t think I’ve ever posted specifically about @chaivasarhelyi and all the incredible work she put into crafting Free Solo. Chai technically co-directed the film with @jimmy_chin – but everyone knows how much time Jimmy likes to spend skiing… Chai’s the powerhouse who actually did the hard work of crafting the film. @freesolofilm is still in theaters all over the country (just got a text from a laggard aunt of mine who’s just getting around to seeing it). Still time to appreciate Chai’s hard work.
The climb, described as “one of the great athletic feats of any kind, ever,” was documented by climber and photographer Jimmy Chin, and was the subject of the 2018 documentary Free Solo.
On June 6, 2018, Honnold teamed up with Tommy Caldwell to break the speed record for the Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite in 1:58:07, becoming the first climbers to complete the route in under two hours.
