Watch How to Spot a Boulderer Outdoors

Once rock climbing is allowed and gyms are closed, never-been-outdoor-climbing climbers will be hitting up the crags and boulders. Here's what to know

As we transition into a post-covid-19 lockdown and are allowed to go rock climbing again, more climbers than ever will be heading to the rock. There are two reasons for that: climbing gyms are closed and rock climbers haven’t been allowed to use the spring season yet.

If you boulder a lot, then you’re going to fall off a lot. Even a small fall from a boulder can leave you limping. Many climbers think bouldering is safer than roped climbing, but it can be more dangerous so take the precautions to have the best session you can.

Whether you are an experienced boulderer or a keen beginner, this video gives tips on how to spot when bouldering. Spotting is a responsibility when a climber is a few metres up so pay attention and be ready to fall. As a climber, be sure to keep your spotter’s attention before going for it.
