Will Stanhope Climbing 5.13R Trad in Sweden

You'll never watch a film featuring Will Stanhope and not be entertained. Cam Maier released this short film of Stanhope climbing run-out gear routes in Sweden this week

Will Stanhope has long been one of North America’s leading trad climbers. From repeats of Cobra Crack 5.14 to the first ascent of Heavy Fuel 5.13R, both in Squamish, Stanhope has been finding bold lines for over a decade.

With Leo Houlding, Stanhope free-climbed the three west faces of the Howser Towers in a 23.5-hour push. “I’ve had this project in the back of my mind for eight years and it was a joy to complete it with Leo, one of my original climbing heroes,” Stanhope said. Read more about the big day here.

Stanhope has climbed four routes free on El Capitan, including a 31-pitch 5.13 with fellow Canadian Mike Doyle – read about it here. He also made the third free ascent of The Southern Belle on the south face of Half Dome at 5.12+R with Alex Honnold. In the below video, Stanhope visits Sweden and gets on three 5.13 trad test-pieces.
