Alex Honnold Free-Soloing on Cliffs in Ireland

The leading American climber laces up on a classic rock climb at Fair Head

In 2016, Alex Honnold was touring around the U.K. when he made a stop at Ireland’s Fair Head to free-solo The Complete Scream, which was first climbed in 2005 by Ricky Bell at a grade of E8 6b.

The route is nearly 60 metres tall and was onsighted in 2015 by Pete Whittaker, who protected the lower half with sky hooks. It’s been described by Ben Heason as “one of the best routes of it’s type in Britain.” U.K. climber Martin McKenna was there to film Honnold’s climb, watch below.

Honnold and his wife Sanni McCandless recently welcomed their second baby and earlier this winter we featured an in-depth interview with Honnold in Gripped magazine, read about it here. Have fun and be safe if you plan to head out climbing this St. Patrick’s Day.
